I’m Jim Strachan, and I am running for School Trustee to bring my experience, integrity and commitment to students, families and educators to the Board of Education.

For more than 45 years, I have lived, learned and served in the Central Okanagan public school system.
I understand our schools because I’ve experienced them from every side - as an award-winning teacher, a parent, a coach, a mentor, a student, and a community member.

I am a proud Kelowna Secondary School graduate who then taught at KSS for 34 years. During that time, I built my career around one simple belief: every student deserves the opportunity to succeed.

My work in education has earned some of Canada’s highest honours for teaching, including the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence, the Canadian Association of Physicists High School Teaching Award, and the Gordon Gore Prize for STEM education.

But my greatest accomplishment is the thousands of students I have taught, coached, mentored and encouraged over the years.
I Understand What Matters in Our Schools.
As a father and parent of two KSS graduates, a husband to a KLO graduate and a KSS graduate myself, my connection to School District 23 is deeply personal.

I understand what it’s like to be a student trying to find your way.

I understand what it’s like to be a parent with expectations of our children’s schools.

I understand the dedication of teachers and staff and the pressures they face every day.

I understand that the decisions made around a boardroom table have a real impact on what happens in our classrooms.
This isn’t simply a position I am seeking; it is a service to the community I have called home for over 55 years.
As Trustee, I will:

Stand up for quality education and the opportunities our students need to thrive.

Bring practical experience and independent thinking to the Board of Education.

I am running because after 45 years as teacher, parent and student in our schools,
